Mt. Natagumo Arc

The Mt. Natagumo arc marks a pivotal turning point in Demon Slayer, escalating the series from a relatively grounded supernatural action story into something darker and more emotionally complex. Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira arrive at Mt. Natagumo to respond to urgent distress signals from demon slayers who have gone silent. They discover the mountain is controlled by the Spider Family — a group of demons who have forcibly created a twisted parody of a family unit, with each member controlling silk threads that puppeteer both humans and demons against their will. The arc immediately forces all three protagonists into separate confrontations they are not yet ready for. Zenitsu, paralyzed by fear, must fight alone in the dark against a demon that uses sound — an encounter that finally reveals the full power of his sleeping Thunderclap and Flash technique and reframes his cowardice as something more complicated than it appeared. Inosuke faces demons whose regenerative abilities push his Beast Breathing to its limits. Tanjiro confronts Mother and later Father Spider, whose silk threads and transformation abilities demand tactical thinking beyond raw power. The arc's true emotional weight comes from the backstory of Rui, the youngest-appearing Spider Family member who murdered his own parents and recreated a family through coercion and terror — his desperate yearning for belonging mirroring Tanjiro's own drive to protect his sister. The arc concludes with the arrival of Hashira Giyu Tomioka and Shinobu Kocho, whose effortless power demonstrates just how vast the gap remains between the protagonists and the series' highest tier of demon slayers.
